Ex-ICE Officer Charged For Demanding Money, Sex as Bribes From Immigrants; Impregnates One

An Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agent was indicted by a federal grand jury Monday, accused of demanding bribes and sex from undocumented immigrants in exchange for avoiding deportation.  The grand jury charged him with seven counts of accepting bribes, one count of harboring an alien, and one count of making false statements to authorities.

Arnaldo Echevarria of Somerset, New Jersey allegedly bribed seven different undocumented immigrants out of $78,000 to protect them from deportation.  If that wasn’t enough, he also forced 2 of the women to have sex with him, impregnating one and subsequently encouraging her to have an abortion.

The accused ICE officer opened a hair salon to hide his scams.  Echevarria owned the business and made the woman he impregnated the manager, paying her in cash to avoid any paper trail – all the while continuing to force her to have sex in exchange for renewing her employment authorization paperwork.

The other immigrants he screwed in a less literal sense.  Upon receiving cash or sexual favors from the other immigrants he kept them from being deported by telling immigration officials that the undocumented immigrants qualified for temporary protected status.  He then also employed the undocumented immigrants at the salon and also paid them in cash, without having them fill out federal paperwork declaring their eligibility to work.

Echevarria faces up to 15 years in prison and $250k fine FOR EACH COUNT of bribery.  The other charges have maximum penalties of $250k and 5 years in prison.  Immigrants have enough to worry about without having to think about crooked ICE officers.  Hopefully others will be discouraged from taking advantage of immigrants.  Make sure you know how to avoid scams!
